What is ESD Chairs

ESD Chairs are Static Control or Electrostatic Dissipative Chairs. Its main principle is to divert static charge to the ground to reduce static charge generated by sitting . Then safely release it through the floor. It basically consists of three parts: an anti-static chair surface, support part,  caster cup.

Where are ESD chairs needed?

It will generates significant electric charges Electrostatic when you standing up from the chair. Discharge is one of the biggest risks in electronic workstations, it will cause major damage to production.  So the ESD chair is an ideal solution for the static electricity generated in the electronic production workshops, laboratories, dust-free workshops and other places ; It is especially necessary for dealing with electronic components. And workers also need support from ergonomic workbenches and work chairs.

How to choose a good anti-static chair?

First of all, the performance of the chair must meet the standard. The current recognition is relatively high as the international anti-static standard IEC61340-5-1 and ANSI/ ESD S20.20.

Surface resistance meets1X105Ω~1X1010Ω, volume resistance meets1X105Ω~1X109Ω.
The detection method is as follows:

  • When testing the resistance, place the chair on the insulation test bench. The surface resistance and volume resistance of the test bench are both greater than 1X1013Ω.Perform a point-to-point test between the seat surface and the backrest. The two electrodes are connected to an ohmmeter, and the two electrodes are placed on the seat surface and the backrest respectively.
  •  ESD chair test
  • When testing the volume resistance of the chair, a 200*200mm conductive plate needs to be placed under the caster or foot cup. The conductive plate should be in good contact with the caster. One electrode is placed on the chair surface and the other electrode is placed on the conductive plate.

In addition to anti-static effects, it should also have the characteristics of load-bearing, compressive and anti-falling, comfort, free lifting, 360 rotation, etc.
