Why use an anti-static workbench?

First of all, we must understand the hazards of static electricity and how static electricity is generated.

Static is mainly generated by triboelectrification, contact electrification, induction electrification, and it happens frequently in our work and daily life.  The electro static will stay on the surface and the body. The more the charge accumulates, the higher the voltage. When it accumulates to a certain level, discharge will occur. The destructive energy caused by electrostatic discharge current will not only damage the product, but also may cause radio frequency interference, which will affect many industries.

  • In the electronics industry, electrostatic adsorption of dust and changes in circuit impedance will affect the function and life of the product; current or electric field will destroy the components; the heat generated by the current may damage the components and reduce the product life.
  • Static in the textile industry can cause entanglement and confusion in spinning yarns.
  • In a printing factory, static will cause the paper to stick together and make it difficult to separate; it will also cause uneven depth of printed matter and paper pollution.
  • In pharmaceutical factories, static attracts dust, which may affect the purity of medicines.
  • Static in the chemical industry may even cause the explosion of flammable and explosive materials.
What is an ESD workbench and what can it do?

After understanding the hazards of static electricity, it is necessary to solve the problem of static electricity accumulation. The function of the ESD workbench is to conduct static electricity to the ground in time when static electricity is generated.

The resistance and volume resistance of the anti-static workbench must be between 1.0 x 106 ~1.0 x 109 Ω. The workbench needs to be connected to the electrostatic grounding point of the laboratory through a copper wire, so that the static electricity can be conducted to the earth more safely.

If your workbench is conductive and the resistance is very low, the current will pass at a very fast speed, which may cause injury.

How to choose esd desktop?

ESD rubber table

There are generally two types of anti-static countertops currently in use. One is an anti-static rubber table mat pasted on the desktop. The advantage of this kind of countertop is that the surface is soft, it has a certain cushioning effect when placing the product, and has a better protective effect on fragile products; the disadvantage is that it has poor abrasion resistance. It is easy to age, has a short service life, and is more prone to damage when encountering high temperatures.

If the quality of the rubber pad you buy is not good, it will have a color difference and a pungent smell.

anti-static laminated countertop

The other is an anti-static laminated countertop (fireproof). The anti-static composite board is the surface material, and the conductive substrate is generally conductive particleboard, which has the characteristics of wear resistance and high temperature resistance, and has become the choice of many users.

How to use the anti-static table mat?

Many users choose to place anti-static rubber pads on ordinary tables and ground the rubber pads through copper wires, but this is actually not enough. It is recommended that qualified users can choose a professional anti-static workbench.

First of all, any problems with the wires connected to the ground will cause static to accumulate on the table and cannot be released to the ground.

Secondly, because static can accumulate anywhere on the workbench, all components on the workbench must be electrostatically dissipative. This is very important. We usually spray anti-static powder on the components to achieve this. If you need to place electronic components or tools in the workbench shelf drawers, drawers, etc., these components need to be part of the ESD protection area.

When working on an ESD workbench, it is necessary to ensure that the operators also maintain the same potential to avoid discharge. Therefore, they need to use an anti-static wrist strap.

ESD workbench grounding method. If every part of your workbench is anti-static, you can connect the bolts on the workbench to the laboratory grounding point through a copper wire, so that the workbench and wrist strap can discharge static electricity to a common grounding point.

Features of DETALL ESD Workbench
